My name is Dan Leland. I began working in the area of employment law in 2006. From 2012 to the present I have been named as a "Rising Star" by Super Lawyers and then as a “Super Lawyer.” Information about the Super Lawyers selection process can be found here.
But that's me on paper; a brief synopsis that doesn't actually summarize my experience, my skills, or my passions.
I like what I do. And I think that I am quite good at it.
Most often, I represent ordinary folks in legal situations that they never wanted to be in, and never thought they would be in. For most of my clients, it is a unique, frightening, and probably once-in-a-lifetime experience. And while it may be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for them, it is what I do on a daily basis. My job is to counsel people in times of crisis, and to fight for their rights through the legal system.
And that is what matters to me. I care about making personal connections with each and every one of my clients. I care about helping good folks through tough times. I think life is too short to do something that isn't gratifying, and that isn't striving to make a positive difference in other peoples' lives. I’ve won at the Minnesota Supreme Court. And while that is gratifying it doesn’t compare to knowing that I have helped people.
Any attorney can cite the law or make rote arguments before the Court. But I focus my practice on knowing my clients and telling their stories. A good lawyer is a good story teller. A good lawyer doesn't just know the facts of their client's case and the applicable law. Instead, a good lawyer knows how to weave the facts and law together to create a factually and legally compelling story. That is how I was trained, and that is what I bring to my practice.

Since 2012, I’ve been immersed in employment law — first as a law clerk for employment law firms and, since 2013, as a licensed attorney. Over the course of my career, I’ve dedicated myself to representing both employees and businesses, giving me a well-rounded perspective that most employment attorneys simply don’t have.
Unlike many attorneys who represent employees, I also serve as a legal consultant for businesses and as a business litigator. This experience gives me a unique advantage in employment cases. I understand how employers think, how they assess risk, and what drives their decision-making. This insight allows me to craft strategies that account for the employer's “business perspective” — an edge that often produces stronger outcomes for my clients. Whether we’re in litigation or settlement negotiations, this perspective is always part of my approach.
I don’t believe that cookie-cutter solutions are always correct. Every client’s legal issues are different, and there’s rarely a one-size-fits-all path to success. When appropriate, I challenge the “status quo” and think beyond the traditional playbook. Creativity in legal strategy can often yield the best results. My goal is to find new angles and craft solutions that others overlook, ultimately positioning my clients for success.
Clients can expect honesty, clarity, and advocacy from me at every stage of their case. I understand that dealing with the legal system can feel overwhelming and uncertain. My role is to provide both guidance and strength. My approach reflects not just my legal knowledge, but also my understanding of how the world works outside the courtroom. Clients appreciate my transparency and my commitment to advocating for them, no matter how challenging the road ahead.

Jeremy has over a decade of experience working in employment law in the Twin Cities. A strong legal and administrative professional, Jeremy comes from a background in community organizing, campaign field work and fundraising, leadership in various political organizations and PACs, youth work, clerical and administrative assistance, and art and design.
A native Minnesotan, Jeremy has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. He currently lives in Wyoming with his partner and their dog and two cats. In his spare time, Jeremy is a committed endurance athlete, racing road and trail races from mile to ultramarathon.
